Heather Conway

Dr Heather Conway is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Law at Queen’s University, Belfast. She writes and researches in the areas of property law and succession law, and is one of a growing number of scholars interested in 'law and emotion' (and, with Dr John Stannard, is co-editor of 'The Emotional Dynamics of Law and Legal Discourse', to be published in late 2016).

Heather's primary research interest is in the law governing the fate of the recently dead and associated decision-making responsibilities, with particular emphasis on the laws around the post-mortem treatment of bodies, corpse disposal, and disputes within families over their dead (including funeral disputes, the legal status of funeral instructions, and family tensions around exhumation and commemoration), as well as the emerging legal and financial issues posed by pre-paid funeral plans. She has presented and published extensively in this area, and is the author of 'The Law and the Dead' (Routledge, 2016).
